This is a very balanced piece, I can see it being very effective on its own, as well as for the readers of a magazine. I'm sure it was well received, I probably would have pinned it up on my wall.
Contributing to the aforementioned balance are the tubes connected, and around, the central bottle. The one that curls looks great next to the black one with the gauge.
I love how the bottle is positioned over the bunsen burner as well, and the way that the liquid they're resting in is dark underneath and light on the top. It looks really cool.
